Alphabet Train

I came home from work the other day and found this wonderful Alphabet Train hanging on the window. I have such an amazing sister who thinks of these great activities! E did a great job writing all of the letters, cutting out the squares, and punching all of the holes. She helped to cut out all of the train wheels–that’s a lot of circles!

Lollipop Grave Site

How cute is this! E made this with Aunt M today and look how hard he worked on it. He painted the gravestones and wrote RIP on all of them as well as the Happy Halloween sign. They wrapped up the lollipops, drew on their faces, and stuck in styrofoam. He is taking them to preschool tomorrow for his classmates.

I don’t know what we would do without Aunt M; I NEVER would have been able to do this with him.

Thank You Notes

Call me crazy, but I just don’t feel right not sending thank you notes for gifts received.

With LM getting older, I like to come up with ways that he can participate in the activity as well.

This year we made thank you notes out of postcard-size card stock that I already had.
LM painted, drew, and/or colored on the cards.
I selected photographs from Christmas with pictures of the person to whom we were sending the card and printed them out as a contact sheet. This size was perfect for cutting out and attaching to the postcard.
I jotted a quick note on all of the cards and did the addresses.
LM added the stamps.

We had a good time working on the project together, and we ended up with some cute cards made with much love.

Cotton ball Snowman

LM and I had fun making this snowman out of cotton balls. I think we had more fun though sifting through all of the buttons I had squirreled away. It is funny how something as small as a button can evoke a strong memory or emotion. There was one from my grandmother’s military uniform and a set from a pair of jeans I had in high school. There was one from a red and black skirt suit that I wore the weekend we got engaged, and two others from a light green dress that I gave away recently.

Fun with Whipped Cream and Food Coloring

I saw this post with shaving cream and food coloring and thought it looked like great fun…all except the shaving cream part.

I had visions of LM getting shaving cream in his eyes and screaming because it burned.

So…..we used whipped cream–no burning eyes (and you could even eat it)

My totally awesome husband made this wooden box for our niece whose birthday is in a couple of weeks. –countless hours of scroll saw work for the cross

Sunprints

Inspired by The Light Garden, LM and I tried out Sunprints yesterday.

I had done this as a child and totally forgotten about it. Thanks for the reminder! We had a great time looking for things to put on the paper. It was totally hands-on, quick (and cool) results. And even included water, which is a major plus for a three-year-old.

Turkey Napkin and Silverware Holders

I wish I could take credit for these cute turkey napkin and silverware holders, but all of the glory goes to my sister who came up with this idea for our family gathering. The round part that holds the silverware and napkin is a toilet roll tube. The kids decorated the turkeys and with assistance added the names. The paperclips were used to hold the turkey into place until the glue dried. The last pic is the final product.
