W and I went to a wedding this weekend. Between that and our upcoming anniversary, I got to thinking about weddings and marriage.
I think the ritual of marriage is as important for the attendees as it is for the couple. It’s about saying we believe in this thing called marriage; we believe in love, and we believe in two people being committed to each other. For me, marriage is about community. It would have been much easier (and cheaper) for W and I to go to the courthouse, but then we would have missed one of the key components–our friends and family. If anything, I wish we would have had more people and a bigger party.
